At FOCUS Society for Support Services, you’ll be part of a team that supports adults with disabilities to live empowered, confident, and connected lives. 
This is a crossover position, meaning you’ll get the best of both worlds working in both our 24/7 Residential Program and our Outreach Program supporting semi-independent adults. It’s dynamic, hands-on, and incredibly rewarding.

What a Support Worker Does:

You’ll Get to Do Activities Like: Swimming, walks, gym time, and other recreation and social outings and community events. Group activities with the Focus family that encourage connection and fun.

You’ll Build Real-Life Skills With Clients, Things Like: Meal planning, cooking, and kitchen skills. Budgeting and money management. Household routines, cleaning, and organization. Supporting employment participation and volunteer skill-building.

You’ll Be a Coach, Role Model, and Cheerleader by Supporting individuals to: Grow their independence, strengthen their social and communication skills, build meaningful friendships, participate confidently in their community and take steps toward personal goals. You will act as a positive role model and supportive guide—sometimes in recreation, sometimes at home, and sometimes in employment or volunteer environments.

You Provide Compassionate Care                                                                                          Some individuals you support may have high needs or be medically fragile. Responsibilities could include assisting with personal care (bathing, grooming, dressing, oral care), supporting mobility or non-verbal communication, helping with toileting and hygiene routines, and light housework, yard work, and daily living tasks. If you’re someone who leads with compassion and kindness, this part of the role will feel natural and deeply meaningful.

Who We’re Looking For!                                                                                                       We’re excited about candidates who are: Energetic, active, and engaged, are strong communicators, practice patience and supportive mannerisms, working at each client’s pace. Are compassionate and understanding of developmental disabilities, and will advocate for inclusion, diversity, and disability rights. Can remain calm and steady during stressful situations, and can be independent, with strong decision-making skills while working within a team who collaborate well. Finally, people who are comfortable with basic computer skills for documentation.

You Must Have: at minimum a Grade 12 education, a valid driver’s licence, a reliable vehicle & clean driver’s abstract. We will require you to provide a current Criminal Record & Vulnerable Sector Check and current First Aid Certification
